“Larry’s story is truly a story of someone who was tired of being sick and tired. He simply made himself well! Through the knowledge he gained from the Exercise is Medicine program he became his own health champion and took back control of his life and his health. We hope Larry’s story will help others do the same.” Jodi Kuri, PT, MPT, OCS Ambulatory Director of Wellness The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I have witnessed his transformation from a person suffering from life-long ailments to a person who has taken charge of his life, his health, and his happiness. Up through his late 60’s, I had never seen Larry exercise- NEVER. In fact, I frequently saw him being in pain, lethargic, and sickly. He experienced numerous hospital visits for many problems and he took a lot of medications. He was walking with a cane. Going into his 70’s, I began seeing a difference in Larry. He was becoming more energetic and more positive. He quit talking about what was ailing him and he started talking about new things he was eating, swimming, and outdoor activities. Then one Christmas, he shocked the family when he walked in the door and challenged us to a push up contest! I was truly impressed. Even though I had seen the changes as they were gradually happening, I did not know the full story until I attended Larry’s “Poor Health Is No Match for Exercise and Healthy Eating” lecture. As he rolled out all of his old pill bottles and tossed his cane on the table, he began to share his story about taking control of his own life and his own health. I am no longer impressed by Larry – I am inspired! Jeff White Director, Consulting Services Exercise Enthusiast New Albany, OH __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ “I attended the Exercise is Medicine lecture in January 2019 and was blown away by the transformation of my friend and neighbor Larry Scurlock. I knew Larry had been faced with multiple seemingly insurmountable health challenges in the past. But what I saw during his presentation was a person who had completely transformed his habits, his lifestyle and his health for the better! It was evident that through the care, support and guidance of the programs provided at The Ohio State University, Wexner Medical Center, New Albany and the Exercise is Medicine program, he had changed the course of his life. Along with a lot of hard work and dedication on Larry’s part and the support of multiple health professionals all under one roof, Larry was able to rewrite his own history. As a physical therapist, I enjoyed seeing firsthand the power of what multi-faceted support provided to the whole patient can do!” Meredith Vegh / MVPt Doctor of Physical Therapy Pataskala, Ohio __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ “Having trained with Larry, I’ve been given a unique opportunity to see what it is that motivates and excites him to lead such a healthy lifestyle. His journey hasn’t been an easy one, but it’s allowed him this chance to share his story so as to inspire others to do the same. His presentation details healthy living is a lifestyle change and not a quick fix, meaning it’s a process that takes time and requires support. It will help you with the goal setting process, as well as help you determine your degree of readiness. Additionally, it shows that healthy living can be achieved in different ways (one size does not fit all). In fact, several members at the fitness center Larry attends have taken this and run with it...and it comes as no surprise, they found success!!” Grant Nau, MS, ACSM, NASM Fitness Specialist The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center
